CROWN HEIGHTS TASC PREP OPTIONS

 

Most colleges require prospective students without a high school diploma to pass a high-school equivalency exam. In New York, for example, students must pass the Test Assessing Secondary Completion (TASC), formerly known as the GED.

COJO Flatbush offers two levels of classes — pre-high school and high school — at two different locations. The classes run on open enrollment, meaning there are no official start or end dates. So students can join the classes at any time and take the TASC whenever they are ready, regardless of whether they completed the pre-program, but as long as they are deemed ready.

 

COJO Classes are tailored specifically for the students enrolled. COJO offers 2 course levels:

 

LEVEL ONE: PRE HIGH SCHOOL

1. *Morning Classes*:

When: Every Monday and Wednesday 9:30am-12:30pm

Where: Touro 1602 AVENUE J

 

2. *Evening Classes*:

When: Every Monday and Wednesday 5:30-8:30pm

Where: COJO FLATBUSH 1523 AVENUE M

 

LEVEL TWO: HIGH SCHOOL CLASSES

1.  *Morning Classes*:

When: Every Tuesday and Thursday 9:30am-12:30pm

Where: Touro 1602 AVENUE J

 

2. *Evening Classes*:

When: Every Monday and Wednesday 5:30pm-8:30pm

Where: COJO FLATBUSH 1532 AVENUE M

 

IMPORTANT: In order to qualify for these courses, you must register and take the TABE placement test, which takes 3.5 hours. The placement test will be administered several times a month at COJO Flatbush, which is located at 1523 Avenue M in Brooklyn.

Note: Additional tutoring may be available depending on the need.

 

Touro College School of Lifelong Education - Boro Park

Free, Co-ed

 

Where: 1273 53rd Street. Brooklyn, NY (Off 13th Ave)

 

Morning Classes

Date: Tues, Wed, Thurs

Time: 10am-1pm

 

Afternoon Classes

Dates: Tues, Wed, Thurs

Time: 1:30pm-4:30pm

 

Evening Classes:

Date: Tues, Wed

Time: 4:30pm-7:30pm

 

These classes run on open enrollment, meaning that there aren’t official start and end dates for the course. Students are welcome to join the classes at any time and take the TASC whenever they are ready to do so, regardless of whether or not they have completed the pre-program, but as long as they are deemed ready.

 

In order to apply, students must take the assessment exam. Call Rosalie Kavadlo at 718-871-6187 x30014 after 4:30 pm to hear the voicemail regarding the information for the next testing.

Councilmember Mathieu Eugene’s Office- Crown Heights

FREE, Co-ed

 

Would-be location: Councilmember Mathieu Eugene’s Office: 900 Rogers Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11226 (Between Snyder Ave & Albemarle Road)

 

Please note: If you are interested in attending a Co-ed course near Crown Heights, this would be a great option. However, the classes will only run if the minimum number of required students enroll. If this location would work for you, please call Jacob Hecht at 718-377-2900 x 7604.

Crown Heights - Girls

FREE, Women Only  

 

Aliya Girls is hoping to begin female-only classes if there is enough of a demand. Classes will take place at 537 Empire Blvd., in Crown Heights.

 

Minimum enrollment is seven students. Availability depends on demand.

Medgar Evers College- Crown Heights

FREE, Co-ed

 

Medgar Evers College provides a GED/ TASC preparatory course, which runs for a period of about 3 months. Each class 3 hours long — you can arrange for either morning or evening classes. The classes begin in September and take place at 1534 Bedford Ave. in Crown Heights (Eastern Pkwy)

IMPORTANT:  In order to enroll, you must come into the Bedford Ave location and take an entrance exam. Exams are on Thursdays, from 10:00 am- 1:00 pm.

PS 181 (Offshoot of Medgar Evers) - in East Flatbush

FREE, Co-ed

 

PS 181 High School offers GED prep classes, starting in September, at 1023 New York Ave
