Earning College Credits:

There are 4 main ways to get credits: On Site, Transfer, CLEP, and Online.

On-Site:

The simplest way to get credits is to take courses on site, i.e. at the college. Whether it be a proper college or an off-site Yeshiva program, one takes courses with the class and gets the relevant credits.

Transfer:

Although your degree will be from one specific college, you don’t necessarily need to take all 120 credits at that college.  You can take some other credits at one college and then “transfer” them to whatever second college will be giving you your degree. Even credits from Yeshiva or Seminary can be transferred this way (see here), which can save you a lot of time. Different programs have a different number of maximum credits they allow to be transferred. For example, FDU program allows you to transfer 72 yeshiva credits; you’re already over halfway there!

CLEP:

CLEP stands for College-Level Examination Program. Basically, you can take an online exam on something you know already, and if you pass a certain score, you automatically get the credits for that course, without actually having to take the course. The degree to which colleges allow you to use CLEP to get credits varies from college to college.

Online:

Some colleges allow you to take courses online; there will be an online place where you can get notes, listen to classes, do homework, and take exams. The degree to which colleges allow you to use online courses to get credits varies from college to college.
